The National Working Committee (NWC), of the New Nigeria Peoples Part, (NNPP), has dissolved the party’s executive committees in Kano State at the state, local government and ward levels.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Oladipo Johnson, disclosed the decision in a statement issued on Friday.
According to Johnson, the dissolution followed an emergency meeting of the NWC and was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.
He revealed that the NWC has also resolved to constitute caretaker committees to oversee the affairs of the party in Kano State pending further directives from the national leadership.
The development comes against the backdrop of an internal political rift involving the NNPP national leader and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf.
Governor Yusuf is reportedly considering a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move said to be strongly opposed by Kwankwaso and his supporters within the party.
