According to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has only one presidential candidate for 2027.
In response to a query about when an Igbo president would be appropriate, the former governor of Abia State stated that Tinubu must serve two terms in order to effectively revitalize the economy.
The former governor of Abia State emphasized the need for an Igbo president, but stated that 2027 is not feasible because President Bola Tinubu “must complete 8 years” in power.
“I am not going to discuss anything about the Igbo presidency. But I still tell you there is a need for it,” Uzor Kalu said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.
“The Igbo must present an acceptable candidate to all Nigerians. No one zone can make a president. President Tinubu was not elected by the Yoruba. He was elected by all Nigerians.”
When asked when he thinks the timing is perfect for an Igbo president, Kalu would rather discuss Tinubu’s reelection.
He claimed that there is currently just one presidential candidate in their party. “Tinubu must also serve for eight years. It is essential. His economic reforms are evident, and the economy is beginning to recover.
“This president doesn’t even engage in political activity. He has never disclosed to anyone whether or not he intends to run for office.
“But as a party, we have mandated him to run and given him a vote of confidence. The NEC has given him a vote of confidence, through a motion proposed by the governor of Imo State and announced by Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who is the national chairman of the party. So, things cannot just get better in one night,” the senator said.
