The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken proactive measures to ensure a peaceful and secure environment in Edo State during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
To achieve this, the corps has deployed 1,300 personnel across the state. According to Efosa Ogbebor, Head of the
Public Relations and Media Unit of the NSCDC Command in Edo, the personnel will be stationed at strategic locations
such as Eid prayer grounds, palaces, monuments, and recreational centers.
This move is aimed at providing maximum security and preventing any potential security threats during the
celebrations. The Federal Government has declared March 31 and April 1 as public holidays to mark the end of the
30-day Ramadan fast.
With this deployment, the NSCDC is reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in Edo State.
Commandant Gbenga Agun emphasized that the command has expanded its intelligence network to preempt and
neutralize any security threats during the celebrations. He assured residents that the security of lives and property
before, during, and after the festival remains the command’s top priority.
The commandant directed all unit commanders, tactical team heads, area commanders, and divisional officers to
maintain a smooth, crime-free, and secure environment throughout the festivities. He also urged the public to
cooperate with security personnel and provide useful information to help identify and curb criminal activities.

In a similar move, the Oyo State Commandant of the NSCDC deployed 2,300 personnel to ensure security during the
Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in 2022.¹ This demonstrates the corps’ consistent efforts to maintain peace and security during significant events and celebrations.
