In preparation for the festive season, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mobilized 4,000 officers across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure the safety of residents and their properties. The personnel, selected from various specialized units, will be strategically positioned to safeguard critical infrastructure, places of worship, recreational spots, and other high-traffic areas during the yuletide period.
The Commandant of the NSCDC’s FCT Command, Olusola Odumosu, emphasized the importance of comprehensive security coverage throughout the season. He urged the officers to strictly adhere to operational directives, ensuring that all identified black spots and vulnerable areas receive adequate attention. Odumosu noted that the force’s focus would also include maintaining peace and fostering national cohesion during the celebrations.
Odumosu acknowledged the seasonal surge in criminal activity, warning that those seeking to take advantage of the festivities to commit crimes would be met with a strong security presence. He urged criminals to reconsider their plans, stressing the Corps’ readiness to address any security breaches swiftly and effectively.
The NSCDC has also intensified its protection of critical national assets, with ongoing surveillance to prevent vandalism and other illicit activities targeting key infrastructure. Odumosu underscored that the protection of these assets remains a top priority and assured that there would be no let-up in the efforts to safeguard public property during the holiday season.
The NSCDC Chief urged FCT residents to celebrate responsibly while remaining vigilant. He encouraged them to report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly, emphasizing that collaboration between security agencies and the public is vital to ensuring a secure and peaceful festive period.
