The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State Command, in conjunction with the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS), apprehended 12 individuals suspected of vandalizing pipelines in Obiakpo Obuzo, Asa in Ukwa West LGA, Abia State.The arrest of the suspects was facilitated by reliable intelligence.
The NSCDC stated: “Acting on credible intelligence, NSCDC Abia Command, in adherence to its duty and the instructions of the Commandant General, Associate Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, effectively dismantled a syndicate engaged in operating illicit refineries in the state.”According to The Nation, the operation conducted by CG’s SIS revealed an extensive network of illegal refineries skillfully concealed in the forests of Obiakpo Obuzo Asa community, with substantial amounts of crude oil believed to have been siphoned from a vandalized nearby pipeline.Moreover, significant quantities of petroleum products in various stages of processing were confiscated during the crackdown.The 12 suspects were apprehended at the site of the illicit activities.
It was reported that ongoing investigations were being carried out to identify and capture all individuals involved in this criminal operation, which poses a significant threat to the nation’s economy.The state commandant, NSCDC Usman Alfadarai, reiterated the corps’ dedication to eradicating criminal elements from Abia state and beyond.He cautioned all criminals operating within the state to cease their illegal activities or face the full force of the law.The Commandant also urged the public to cooperate with NSCDC by providing reliable intelligence that will aid in apprehending criminals.
