The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), has charged NYSC Rivers State Corps Members to champion moral and ethical values during their national service.
Speaking at the NYSC orientation camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai LGA, Ibas, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, encouraged Corps Members to embrace discipline and national values.
He emphasized that the state government would ensure their safety and comfort throughout their service year, adding that 1,000 new mattresses and hostel renovations would soon improve the camp’s living conditions.
Furthermore, Ibas highlighted the importance of character reformation as a cornerstone of his administration’s development goals. He urged Corps Members to become role models in a society that increasingly values trust and integrity.
Earlier, NYSC Rivers State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, described the Corps Members as custodians of Nigeria’s future, urging them to drive peace and economic advancement across the nation.
Oleghe further encouraged them to shift away from negative narratives and instead focus on fostering unity and national progress during their NYSC Rivers State experience.
Additionally, he noted that Corps Members must act as agents of national rebirth, building bridges of cooperation and championing the future of the country with courage.
The oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Weli Amadi Chechey, representing the Chief Judge of Rivers State, marking the official start of the orientation programme.
A total of 2,002 Corps Members took the oath at the NYSC Rivers State camp, comprising 804 males and 1,198 females ready to serve with pride and dedication.
