The crisis within the Labour Party (LP) deepened. A key loyalist of factional National Chairman Julius Abure directly accused its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of causing the internal strife. The Edo State factional Chairman asserts that Obi created Labour Party problem.
Elizabeth Ativie, the factional Chairman of the LP in Edo State, made this assertion. She condemned an attack on the National Chairman by Obi’s staunch supporter, Precious Oruche (Mama P). Ativie argued directly that Obi created Labour Party problem through his actions, particularly a specific stakeholders meeting.
Obi and Otti Called Illegal Umuahia Meeting
Ativie focused on the stakeholders meeting in Umuahia, Abia State, in September 2024. Specifically, Peter Obi and Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, convened this meeting.
“We want to state clearly that Obi created the problem in the Labour Party,” Ativie alleged. Furthermore, she claimed the meeting was “ill-fated and illegally expanded.” The attendees called it for the sole purpose of removing a legally constituted National Working Committee of the party through underhand means.
Ativie Questions Obi’s “Competence, Character and Capacity”
The Edo LP factional Chairman launched a direct attack on Peter Obi’s leadership qualities. She claimed Obi cannot be a good leader. Specifically, she asserted that he “lacks the competence, character and capacity to actualise the vision of a new Nigeria.”
“A leader who cannot advise or guide his followers properly can hardly be a good leader,” Ativie stated. Consequently, she concluded that “it is even more dangerous to entrust the whole of Nigeria into such one’s care.”
