Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has stated that the only coalition he is interested in is one that fights poverty, hunger, and Nigeria’s appalling healthcare and educational conditions, amid mounting rumours of a potential coalition among opposition leaders to overthrow President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The former governor of Anambra State underlined that he is not anxious for any job during his Monday visit to the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja.
Obi underlined that he was not yearning for any job during his Monday visit to the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja.
“The only coalition I am interested in is the one against hunger, poverty, and the bad state of healthcare and education in the country. I am not desperate for any position,” he said.
Many people think that a coalition of Obi, Atiku, and other opposition parties will beat Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Obi finished third in the 2023 election, behind President Tinubu and PDP leader Atiku Abubakar.
The former governor of Anambra State rejected an offer to run for vice president in 2027, claiming that people who claimed he had an agreement to deputise anyone were engaging in self-serving politics that would be harmful to the nation’s development.
He claimed that the church had to shoulder the heavy load because the government had failed miserably to provide free, high-quality basic education.
Following Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration Mass at the Vatican on Sunday, Obi was spotted mingling with President Tinubu and Kayode Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti State.
In response, the former governor of Anambra stated that he was not the president’s opponent and that he merely showed him the deference that Rome required.
He reemphasised that the only enemy he has is corruption and corrupt leaders who have made life difficult for the Nigerian people.
