Following the recent decision of the Labour Party (LP) to establish a directorate for the Obidient Movement within the party, Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 general elections and the key figure behind the Obidient Movement in Nigeria, emphasized that the group transcends mere political affiliation.
Obi highlighted that the membership of the Obidient Movement is diverse, encompassing individuals from various political parties, genders, ethnicities, religions, and geographical regions. He emphasized that the primary objective of the movement is to facilitate the transformation and reconstruction of a new Nigeria that is achievable.
In a statement on his designated platform, Obi asserted, “I want to unequivocally clarify that the Obidient Movement is not aligned with any specific political party. Those who claim leadership of a non-existent directorate within the movement are not part of the broader Obidient Movement.

“While political parties may have youth mobilization directorates, the Obidient Movement transcends the boundaries of any single party. It is an inclusive and diverse collective that surpasses conventional political, religious, and ethnic divisions.
“The movement is not affiliated with any particular party or region. Its members come from various sectors, including rural communities, public institutions, private enterprises, and multinational corporations, united by a shared vision for a revitalized Nigeria. Embracing principles of adaptive and transformative change, progress, discipline, and democratic ideals, the Obidient Movement advocates for fairness, equity, inclusivity, and justice.

“We are dedicated to upholding a strict code of governance that prioritizes accountability and responsibility. Our members are devoted to contributing to the advancement of a brighter future for Nigeria through the New Nigeria initiative, grounded in loyalty, integrity, and democratic principles.
“The Obidient Movement aims to instigate positive change through a commitment to integrity, honesty, and transparency, rejecting deceptive practices.
“We aim to serve as a beacon of hope for a reenvisioned Nigeria, where leadership is characterized by integrity, capability, competence, compassion, and the welfare of all citizens.
“This statement serves to clarify that the Obidient Movement functions independently of any political party, and its membership is not confined to any specific affiliation. Our unwavering focus is on driving constructive change and advocating for a New Nigeria that benefits all. This is our identity and commitment, enduring through all time.”
