Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi, the Chief Magistrate of Ondo State, has ordered the remand of Arigidi Akoko, a 15-year-old female student at Anglican Grammar School, for allegedly fatally stabbing her 17-year-old colleague, Habib Salau.
Until the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, or DPP, office could provide guidance, the magistrate ordered her to be kept at the Ondo State Juvenile Home in Akure.
Considering the gravity of her offence, the magistrate refused to take her plea.
The SS3 student is on trial for allegedly using a knife to attack Habib Salau, 17, who passed away, during an altercation between them after school.
The defendant was charged with two counts of murder and conspiracy when she appeared in court.
The juvenile criminal and another person at large conspired to commit murder on October 3 at around 3:30 p.m. at Imo, Arigidi Akoko, according to information previously provided to the court by Police Prosecutor Josephine Awana.
Awana said that during a fight, the defendant killed Salau by stabbing him with a knife.
As narrated by the prosecutor to the court, “The defendant accused the deceased of accosting her on the way home after a misunderstanding between them.
“It resulted in a fight, and the defendant said someone gave her a knife and ordered her to stab the deceased on the neck.”
Awana asked the court to remand the offender at the correctional facility, pending the issuance of advice from the DPP, which was expressly granted.
