The Ondo State Police Command has issued a warning to residents against spreading false information ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
In a statement on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, expressed concern over the circulation of old videos and misleading content intended to incite unrest within communities.
The statement highlighted a recent video from 2013 depicting flooding in Ore, which was circulated as current news, and another false claim about a corpse’s fingers being amputated at a mortuary in Ajowa-Akoko. Both incidents were debunked by police investigations.
The police urged residents to verify information before sharing, warning that misinformation during election periods could undermine public trust, incite violence, and threaten democracy.
The Command assured the public that security agencies were prepared to ensure a peaceful election and would take necessary action against any attempt to disrupt the peace during the electoral process.
