The city of Akure, Ondo State capital, was thrown into chaos yesterday as protesters took to the streets to demand
the release of nine Surveyors abducted by kidnappers. The protesters, mostly women, blocked the popular Oba
Adesida road, wielding placards and expressing their outrage over the kidnapping.
According to eyewitnesses, the nine Surveyors, all from Akure, were abducted while working at Owode Ilu-Abo in
Akure South local government area. The kidnappers, who have demanded a ransom of N100 million, have sent
shockwaves throughout the community.
Comfort Afolabi, sister to one of the kidnapped victims, revealed that the Surveyors were taken last week. “The
kidnappers initially demanded N50 million, but they have now increased the ransom to N100 million,” she said.
The abduction of the Surveyors is the latest in a series of kidnappings that have plagued Ondo State in recent weeks.
Just last week, a farmer and his manager were abducted while returning from their farm at Oba Ile area.
