Osun APC supports FG over seizure of LG allocations

The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Osun State has faulted lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over their call for the release of federal allocations to local government councils in the state.

In a statement issued by Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, the APC said members of the National and State Assemblies aligned with a faction of the PDP were misrepresenting the status of local government administration in Osun.

The reaction comes after a press conference in Osogbo on Saturday addressed by Senator Lere Oyewumi and other PDP lawmakers, where they urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the payment of federal allocations to council chairmen and councillors they recognise.

According to the APC, the lawmakers’ appeal disregards existing court rulings concerning the leadership of the councils.

The party insisted that individuals occupying the positions under its platform were reinstated through judicial pronouncements and are lawfully carrying out their duties.

“The duly elected chairmen and councillors have resumed responsibilities in line with the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered on 10 February 2025. Any attempt to describe them as illegal occupants is a distortion of the facts,” the statement said.

The APC referenced a Supreme Court judgement delivered in December 2025, which it said clarified the legal status of the council leadership.

“The apex court’s decision is clear on who the lawful officials are,” the party stated.

Responding to allegations that APC officials were occupying council secretariats with police support, the party said security agencies were acting within their constitutional mandate to maintain order.

“Law enforcement agencies have a duty to ensure peace and compliance with lawful court decisions.

“It is important for elected representatives to align their public statements with subsisting judicial pronouncements. Political endorsements do not override court rulings.

“We believe the President will act in accordance with constitutional provisions and established judicial outcomes,” it stated.
