Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced the relaxation of the curfew imposed on the Ifon and Ilobu communities, following a significant improvement in the security situation in the areas. The governor had initially imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the communities due to the incessant communal clashes that resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the curfew will now be restricted to the hours of 10pm to 4am daily. This decision was taken after the governor expressed satisfaction with the gradual return of peace to the affected communities.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that while the peace process is not yet complete, he is convinced that it is only a matter of time before total peace is restored in the communities. He commended the efforts of the security agencies and the stakeholders in the communities for their cooperation in maintaining peace.
The governor also directed the security personnel to continue their 24-hour surveillance in the communities to ensure that the peace is sustained. He appealed to the stakeholders in the communities to continue to cooperate with the government to resolve the issues amicably.
The relaxation of the curfew is expected to bring relief to the residents of the affected communities, who have been subjected to the restrictions for several weeks. The governor’s decision is seen as a positive step towards restoring normalcy in the areas.
Governor Adeleke also urged the people of the communities to use the holy month of Ramadan to pray for lasting peace and harmony. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that peace is maintained in all parts of the state.
