Prince Ayobami Ladigbolu, a contender for the prestigious Alaafin of Oyo throne, has opened up about the challenges he faced during the competition, highlighting both the support and betrayal he experienced along the way. In a heartfelt statement shared on Facebook, the prince congratulated the new Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Owoade, acknowledging his emergence as divinely orchestrated.
Ladigbolu recounted the painful moment when some of his initial supporters, lured by financial incentives, abandoned him in favour of other candidates. Despite the setback, he expressed no anger but instead emphasised the valuable lessons he learned. He noted how the race for the crown revealed the strong influence of money in people’s decisions.
While reflecting on his journey, Prince Ladigbolu thanked the Agbonhin Sanda Oridota family and the larger Ladigbolu section of the Agunloye royal family for their unwavering support. He also expressed gratitude for the backing of his close family members, including his wife and children.
The prince urged the people of Oyo to unite behind the newly crowned Alaafin, emphasising the importance of supporting the new king to ensure the prosperity of Oyo town and the wider Yoruba land. He also praised his fellow contenders, Prince Kolade Tunde Sanni Oladigbolu and Prince Muideen Adekunle Oladigbolu, describing them as “blood brothers” with whom he shared a strong bond.
