The Oyo state government has launched a capacity-building program for 1,950 farmers across the state’s 33 local government areas. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to enhancing food security and promoting agricultural development.

Declaring the training open, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, emphasized that the program aims to create a sustainable agricultural ecosystem. This ecosystem will boost food production in Nigeria and ensure food sufficiency in the coming months.

The training program encompasses various areas, including pasture establishment, management, conservation, and artificial insemination techniques. A total of 660 farmers will receive training in these areas, while 300 farmers will learn about climate-smart agriculture. This will focus on high-value crop production and effective weed management strategies.

Additionally, 140 young farmers will receive training on beekeeping practices, while 100 participants will learn about shea butter production techniques. Furthermore, 90 participants will receive training on locust bean processing methods, and 660 youths, women, and retirees will receive specialized training on mushroom cultivation across all zones in the state.

The government has engaged expert resource persons to ensure a comprehensive learning experience. These experts include scholars from the University of Ibadan, such as Prof. Olusola Olorunnisomo and Dr. Adewunmi Adesina.

Barrister Olaleye urged the participants to take full advantage of the training, emphasizing the government’s investment in the state’s agricultural future. Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration recognizes the vital role farmers play in ensuring food security and economic growth.

The Oyo state government’s commitment to agricultural development is evident in its continuous training programs. These programs aim to promote good agricultural practices, increase food production, and ensure food security in the state.

The training program is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of the participants and the overall agricultural sector in Oyo state.
