Party Reacts as Aregbesola’s Group Quits APC

The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by a former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, at the weekend announced its decision to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group noted that its decision to quit the APC was a result of ostracisation, suspension, and expulsion of its leaders without a fair hearing from the party.

The group claims that the Osun APC’s strength and popularity among Osun residents have diminished as a result of ongoing criticism of the party’s structure and poor handling of the intra-party issue that caused the party to suffer a crushing defeat in the most recent election cycle.

In a statement, Oluwaseun Abosede, the organizing and publicity secretary for the Omoluabi Progressives, made this announcement and said that the group’s stakeholders had decided to leave the APC.

According to her, ” The decision was taken after the group ratified an earlier resolution of members from the 332 wards across Osun State at its monthly meeting held in Ilesa on Sunday.”

“The members were put to a voice vote by the leadership of the fold, where they affirmed their readiness to switch allegiance to another political camp ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state,” Abosede’s statement read in parts.

According to the announcement, Rauf Aregbesola, the former Interior Minister, praised them for their dedication and perseverance to the values of morality, integrity, and good governance.

“That you all spoke with a single voice makes me very delighted. Leading the route to our joint victory in the upcoming trip requires more than just a single voice—it requires a united front.

“I want to remind you that the goal of the trip we are currently on is to use responsible leadership to further increase the level of prosperity of our beloved state.

“The path we have toed is smooth, highly reassuring, and full of good tides that will propel our dear state to greatness. Therefore, you must show more commitment and attract genuine people who are ready to walk this path of righteousness with us.

“We are open to all, regardless of political, religious, or socio-cultural leanings. We have the numbers, strength, and political acumen to provide leadership that will make Osun the toast of its peers. By the grace of God, we shall succeed.”

Aregbesola, while commenting on the resolution to quit APC, noted that the time had come for the members to work aggressively for the success of Omoluabi Progressives and its vision to entrench good governance in Osun.

Additionally, he promised that the consequences of the group’s leadership continuous efforts to appropriately position it for the task at hand will soon be realized.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State responded to the news by saying it is not alarmed by the announcement that political gangbangers going by the name of Omoluabi Progressives will leave the party’s mainstream in the state, where they had been since 2022.

“In fact, the absurd announcement of the so-called Omoluabi Progressives to quit the APC is a good riddance to bad rubbish,” said Chief Kola Olabisi, the spokesperson for Osun APC, in a statement.

The statement reads: “In the first instance, the kernel of the statement by the dissidents group amounted to a confused pack of rudderless political vagabonds who were approbating and reprobating at the same time as it is on record that a sizeable number of them have either been expelled or suspended from the party.”
