Pascal Gabriel Dozie, the founder of the defunct Diamond Bank and former chairman of MTN Nigeria, has passed
away at the age of 85. His death occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, 2025, as confirmed by a statement
from his family.
His son, Uzoma Dozie, shared the news with deep sorrow, highlighting his father’s unwavering faith and his immense
contributions to both the Nigerian banking and telecommunications sectors.
Born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Dozie was a highly respected figure in Nigeria’s business community.
He was raised in a Catholic household, with his father, Charles Dozie, serving as a catechist. Pascal Dozie’s
educational journey was marked by excellence, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of
Economics, followed by a Master’s in Administrative Science from City University, London.

Dozie was instrumental in establishing Diamond Bank in 1990, a financial institution that became one of Nigeria’s
most prominent banks before merging with Access Bank. His leadership in banking was complemented by his role in
telecommunications. As the pioneering chairman of MTN Nigeria, Dozie played a key role in the telecom revolution,
shaping the country’s communications landscape.
In addition to his corporate achievements, Dozie’s leadership was characterized by humility, integrity, and long-term
vision, traits that earned him numerous accolades, including the national honor of Commander of the Order of the
Niger (CON). He is survived by his wife, Chinyere, his five children, and grandchildren, who fondly remember him as a
devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
