Following the impressive performance of Nigeria Super Falcons at the going Women African Cup Of Nation (WAFCON), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the complete and immediate payment of all Super Falcons’ allowances and match bonuses.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman National Sports (NSC) Shehu Dikko and made it available to newsmen.
According to the statement the bonuses and allowances should include for the upcoming final match against Morocco , tomorrow in Casablanca, adding that this is the first time an improved bonuses and allowances have been paid to players.
The President also approved improved welfare packages for D’Tigress as they begin their FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 campaign.
“For the first time in our sporting history,the Super Falcons have been paid all their
allowances and match bonuses as at the 23rd of July, 2025 ,through the NFF for immediate
disbursement to the players, coaches and team officials,up to,and including the final match
due to take place on 26th July 2025 against Morocco without delay,dispute, unnecessary
distractions or drama as they march towards a historic 10th African” he said.
The statement further said that this payment It is policy in motion and proof of a new era in Nigerian sports under the leadership o President Tinubu, where athletes are
no will longer be celebrated only in victory but also respected in process as well as building a new trust between athletes and the authorities.
“Similarly, D Tigress, our Basketball African champions and Olympic quarter-finalists, who are beginning their campaign for their fifth African title at the 2025 FIBA Women AfroBasket in Cote dlvoire (25th July-August 3rd 2025),are also receiving improved allowances, welfare packages,and winning bonuses for the full duration of the tournament.
“I must also add that going forward, this will be the new standard for how we treat our
athletes in Nigeria. As long as resources are available, what you earn, you wil be paid without
any delays. What you deserve, you will receive”, the statement added.
