The conflict in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to thicken as another prominent leader in the party have resigned.
The Assistant State Woman Leader, South, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Margaret Okon, officially resigned from the party.
Her resignation marks a significant change in the local political environment and contributes to the recent political changes in Cross River State that followed Amawhe’s departure.
Less than 48 hours have passed since Emana Amawhe, the PDP’s nominee for deputy governor in the general elections of 2024, also resigned.
Okon thanked the party for the experiences and opportunities she received while serving in a letter to the ward chairman of Edem Odo Ward in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

She thought back on her career, which includes positions as a councillor, ward executive, and, most recently, assistant state women leader for the South and a member of the state executive council.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the party in various capacities, from being a Ward Exco member to serving as a Councillor and, most recently, as a member of the State Executive Council/Assistant State Woman Leader, South; a position I have held until today. These experiences have been invaluable, and I deeply appreciate the trust and support I received throughout my journey,” she said.
“The insights and lessons I have gained during my time in the PDP will undoubtedly play an instrumental role in shaping my future endeavours. As I take this step forward, I remain committed to the service of my community and the pursuit of progress for our people.”
This resignation represents a significant change in the local political environment and adds to the recent political changes that have occurred in Cross River State since Amawhe’s departure.
