The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has taken a significant step toward unifying its members by establishing a new 13-member reconciliation committee. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the party’s new leadership to reinforce internal cohesion and enhance its political influence in the state.

The decision to create this committee was announced by Austin Nwachukwu, the newly appointed leader of the PDP in Imo State. Nwachukwu outlined the primary objective of the committee, which is to bring together all party members and foster a united, inclusive, and powerful organization.

During the inauguration ceremony, held at the party’s State Secretariat in Owerri, he emphasized that his administration is committed to ensuring that the PDP remains a beacon of hope and a viable alternative for good governance in Imo State.

Nwachukwu articulated that the committee’s role is crucial for preparing the PDP to potentially take over the state’s governance in the 2027 elections. He stressed the importance of resolving internal conflicts and building a strong, cohesive party foundation that can effectively address the needs and aspirations of the people.

The newly formed committee is expected to address and reconcile the grievances of members who were dissatisfied with the outcomes of recent ward and local government area congresses. Nwachukwu has tasked the committee with the dual responsibility of mending relationships among party members and attracting new supporters to broaden the party’s base.

Ben Duru, who has been appointed as the chairman of the reconciliation committee, assured the party leadership of his commitment to fulfilling the committee’s mandate. In his acceptance speech, Duru acknowledged that disagreements are inevitable in a large organization like the PDP but emphasized that such differences should not undermine the party’s unity.

He expressed confidence that the committee would work diligently to resolve issues and complete its task within a month. Duru highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive outlook, even in challenging times, and reiterated that the committee’s efforts would contribute to the party’s long-term success.

Lancelot Obiaku, the party’s publicity secretary, elaborated on the committee’s specific duties. According to Obiaku, the committee will focus on identifying and engaging with members who have expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s recent internal processes.

The goal is to address their concerns, facilitate fair resolutions, and promote a spirit of peace and unity within the party. By doing so, the PDP aims to strengthen its internal dynamics and present a united front to voters.

The inauguration event was marked by the presence of key figures from the State Working Committee and numerous party supporters. The gathering underscored the party’s commitment to fostering unity and reinforcing its organizational structure as it prepares for future political challenges.
