Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have received high praise for their courage in the ongoing political conflict involving Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike. This commendation is based on their recent support for Governor Fubara, which has been seen as a strong defense of Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT).
Emeka-Yellow Ikpegbu, the National Coordinator of PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, expressed admiration for the PDP Governors’ bold stance. He highlighted their support as a clear demonstration of bravery against Wike’s alleged attempts to influence and undermine the party’s internal processes.
According to Ikpegbu, this support underscores the governors’ commitment to fairness and equity within the PDP.
Ikpegbu, speaking during a recent event in Umuahia, emphasized that the position taken by the PDP Governors has affirmed and supported the recent actions of the PDP Board of Trustees.
The BoT, led by Senator Wabara, had recently visited Governor Fubara in Port Harcourt, expressing solidarity and support. This visit and the governors’ declaration in Jalingo, led by Governor Bala Mohammed, reflect a unified stance on maintaining the integrity and leadership structure of the PDP, as outlined by the party’s constitution.
The ongoing dispute has been a point of concern for many within the party, and Ikpegbu’s remarks are a call for unity and adherence to democratic values. He noted that the governor’s actions have shown a commitment to justice and the principles that should guide the party. This stance is seen as a necessary move to prevent any return to past issues of impunity that had previously weakened the PDP’s position.
Ikpegbu cautioned that the PDP must avoid repeating the mistakes of the past if it aims to regain and maintain political control at the national level. He stressed that for the party to remain robust and successful in upcoming elections, its leaders must continue to uphold the core democratic values that have historically been the foundation of the PDP.
Ikpegbu advised Wike to focus on his duties as the FCT Minister and to refrain from interfering with the internal matters of the PDP. He urged Wike to allow Governor Fubara, Senator Wabara, and the PDP to operate without external pressures or disruptions. This call for focus and respect for party governance is intended to ensure a stable and unified approach as the PDP prepares for future political challenges.
