Kola Ologbondiyan has alleged that PDP governors face mounting pressure to defect to APC ahead of 2027 elections.
The PDP chieftain referenced President Tinubu’s recent reconciliation meeting with Wike and Fubara as a major political concern.
Ologbondiyan warned that PDP governors are being harassed, intimidated, and coerced into joining the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He insisted that the PDP must now act decisively to protect its elected governors from political manipulation and defection threats.
Two PDP governors—Delta’s Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom’s Umo Eno—have already defected, citing internal party instability.
Ologbondiyan dismissed internal crisis as the main reason, stating the defections are largely due to external political pressure.
He acknowledged that Tinubu’s handling of the Rivers crisis dealt a significant blow to PDP’s internal leadership structure.
According to him, governors are afraid to speak out publicly but have shared concerns privately about rising coercion tactics.
He urged the PDP leadership to put the Rivers issue behind and refocus on retaining control in 2027 elections.
Ologbondiyan emphasized unity, calling on party members to resist intimidation and commit to rebuilding the PDP from within.
He added that preserving party cohesion was vital to preventing more PDP governors from defecting to the APC shortly.
