The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executive committee for Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 has announced the suspension of Dino Melaye due to allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities.
Dino Melaye, a prominent figure from Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, has faced suspension as a result of a recent decision by the PDP ward executive committee. This decision was communicated through a statement released on Friday by the PDP ward chairman, Abayomi Osamika, and the ward secretary, Yodson Dayo, in Lokoja.
The suspension follows a resolution made during the PDP ward executive committee meeting on Thursday, September 12. This meeting, held in Aiyetoro, concluded with a formal resolution to suspend Melaye, which was signed by all members of the committee. The decision was reportedly made after careful consideration of a report from the party’s disciplinary committee.
According to the statement, the disciplinary committee had been investigating allegations against Melaye regarding his conduct and alleged anti-party activities. The committee had invited Melaye to appear on August 20, 2024, to address these concerns. However, Melaye’s failure to attend this meeting was viewed by the executive committee as a serious act of disrespect towards the party and its leadership.
The statement further explained that the executive committee’s decision to suspend Melaye aligns with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which permits the ward executive committee to take disciplinary action in cases of misconduct. The committee cited Melaye’s actions as being in clear violation of the PDP Constitution and the party’s disciplinary principles.
“The conduct of Senator Dino Melaye has not only embarrassed the party but has also undermined its principles and integrity. Given the severity of the situation and the continued harm to the party’s reputation, his membership is no longer tenable,” the statement said.
The suspension is effective immediately, marking a significant move by the PDP to address the issues raised. The party aims to maintain its standards and uphold its values, which the committee believes were compromised by Melaye’s actions.
Attempts to reach Dino Melaye for a response to the suspension were unsuccessful. He did not answer calls or respond to messages, leaving the party’s announcement as the primary source of information regarding the situation.
This suspension is a notable development within the PDP, reflecting the party’s commitment to addressing internal issues and enforcing its disciplinary measures.
