Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the recent wave of attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, which led to the deaths of several innocent civilians.
In a statement shared on Friday, Obi expressed his deep concern over the violent incident that saw entire families murdered, including children and pregnant women. The tragic attacks affected five communities—Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai—where victims were buried in mass graves.
Obi, who has been vocal on issues of security and governance, called for a swift and decisive response from the government to address the growing insecurity in the country. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, asking, “How many more must die before the government acts for the people?”
Obi also raised concerns over the normalization of violence in various parts of Nigeria, questioning why attacks like these continue to occur despite the country not being at war. He highlighted similar incidents in other states, including Benue, Enugu, Ondo, and Anambra, and stressed that no Nigerian should live in fear. He called on security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and that preventive measures are put in place to avoid future occurrences.
Offering his condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Bokkos, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the protection of Nigerians in all parts of the country. He concluded by urging the government to take concrete steps to stop the ongoing violence and safeguard citizens’ rights to live in peace.
The attack in Bokkos, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the deaths of at least five people and left 18 others injured. The violence began when gunmen attacked Tamiso village, where women were attending a Christian fellowship meeting, causing panic and displacing many residents.
