Even though they did not directly mention each other’s names, a review of their respective posts indicates that Mr Peter Obi and M. Sowore have continued to verbally name-call each other.
When Mr Obi responded to a report published by Sahara Reporters by calling Mr Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, a “blackmailer” and “self-proclaimed ‘blackmailer-in-chief’,” he launched the initial salvo.
According to the new report, Mr Obi recently allegedly met with President Bola Tinubu in Rome so that the opposition leader could make a request on behalf of Fidelity Bank, which Mr Obi previously oversaw.
Another prominent new platform reported that Mr Obi and President Tinubu met coincidentally at a Vatican event for Pope Leo XIV.
Mr. Obi denied requesting a meeting with Mr. Tinubu to talk about Fidelity Bank in his post on X. The former governor of Anambra State said that he only ever saw the president once, during Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration liturgy at Saint Peter’s Basilica.
“One such individual, whose entire life revolves around blackmail, falsely claimed that I went to Rome to have a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding a purported ₦225 billion debt crisis involving Fidelity Bank. These claims are not only baseless and malicious but entirely false,” Mr Obi wrote.
“Let me categorically state that I have never sought an audience with, nor met, President Tinubu since he assumed office, except for about a 1-minute meeting at the arena of Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome during the inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV, where I was seated behind him and had to respectfully greet him and the other dignitaries present,” he added.
Regarding an exclusive investigation that revealed Mr Obi had broken Nigerian laws in his business transactions as the owner of NEXT, Mr Sowore responded around two hours later by calling Mr Obi a “Money Launderer-In-Chief”.
