The Federal Government has strongly condemned the Plateau attack, expressing deep concern over the tragic incident in Angwan Rukuba during Palm Sunday.
Authorities extended condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Plateau State, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and unacceptable.
Speaking in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, conveyed the Federal Government’s sympathies on behalf of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Meanwhile, the government confirmed that security agencies acted promptly following reports of the Plateau attack in Jos North.
Idris revealed that troops under Operation Enduring Peace were immediately deployed after emergency alerts from residents. Subsequently, security forces secured the area, controlled access routes, and launched search-and-clearance operations.
According to him, these rapid interventions helped contain the situation quickly and prevented further escalation across nearby communities.
Furthermore, authorities stated that the Plateau attack forms part of broader security challenges in the North-Central region. As a result, the Nigerian Armed Forces have intensified intelligence-driven operations across vulnerable areas.
Enhanced surveillance, increased troop deployment, and joint military-police patrols have also been introduced to strengthen response capabilities. These coordinated efforts aim to neutralise threats proactively and restore lasting peace.
Tinubu Meets Security Chiefs Over Incident
In response to the Plateau attack, President Tinubu convened a high-level meeting with top security and intelligence officials. The meeting focused on assessing the situation and determining further decisive actions.
Following the discussions, the President invited Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to engage in consultations aimed at developing a coordinated security strategy for the state.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North immediately after the incident. Officials explained that the restriction was necessary to stabilise the area and support ongoing security operations.
Authorities confirmed that the state continues to work closely with federal agencies to prevent reprisals, restore calm, and facilitate investigations.
The Federal Government has directed all security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the Plateau attack are identified and prosecuted.
Idris stressed that criminal elements will find no refuge anywhere in Nigeria, adding that ongoing operations are already producing actionable intelligence.
