The Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State has announced the arrest of 859 individuals involved in crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping during 2024. Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina shared the statistics on Friday during a briefing where 27 suspects were paraded at the command’s headquarters in Jos.
According to Adesina, “A breakdown of our crime statistics for 2024 reveals that 794 cases were reported, 859 suspects arrested, 415 cases charged to court, 46 kidnap victims rescued, and 27 arms with 115 rounds of ammunition recovered.”
Among the recent arrests, the commissioner highlighted a significant case on December 14, where officers apprehended Emmanuel Atu, a 24-year-old, in the Agingi area of Bassa Local Government. A revolver pistol with live ammunition was found in his possession. Atu confessed to being a member of the Eiye Black Axe Confraternity.
In another operation, police acting on intelligence arrested four suspects in Langtang North Local Government for illegal possession of firearms. The suspects, identified as Lohkur Ponfa, Monday Seljum, Nansak Ndam, and Nanbut Napdong, were found with an AK-47 rifle and 13 rounds of live ammunition. They admitted to several armed robbery operations, including an August 5 robbery targeting a local resident. Adesina emphasized that all suspects would face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
