The police in Ogun State have apprehended a 33-year-old man, Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, who is suspected of being involved in both armed robbery and rape in Ijagun, a locality within the Odogbolu local government area.
This arrest marks a significant step in addressing a series of crimes that have raised concerns among local residents and university students.
Shedrack was taken into custody in connection with a distressing incident involving the armed robbery and sexual assault of female students at the Tai University of Education in Ijagun.
Reports indicate that in July, several female students residing in the Royal Villa accommodation were targeted by a group of assailants.

The victims were not only robbed of their laptops and mobile devices but also suffered the trauma of sexual violence.
Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the arrest early Monday morning. She revealed that Shedrack had been on the police wanted list for his alleged involvement in these serious crimes.
The police acted on intelligence reports indicating that he was hiding among a crowd in Ijagun, attempting to evade capture.
Odutola stated, “Olayemi Olawale Shedrack has been on the police search for armed robbery and rape. He was identified as the prime suspect in the criminal activities that took place on July 21, 2024.
“He, along with his accomplices, broke into the female Royal Villa accommodation area, robbing innocent students of their valuable educational devices, including laptops, iPhones, wristwatches, and cash, while also committing sexual assault.”

The police’s swift action in responding to the tip-off was crucial in apprehending Shedrack. Officers were able to confirm his identity and arrest him without incident. This operation underscores the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
Following the arrest, Shedrack is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more thorough investigation and prosecution. The police are committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victims and that all perpetrators are brought to account.
In light of this incident, Police Commissioner Alamutu Abiodun has called upon the Ijagun community to assist the police by providing credible information that could lead to the capture of Shedrack’s accomplices.
The community’s support is vital in tackling crime and ensuring a safer environment for everyone, especially students who are vulnerable to such acts of violence.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the police, as collective action can significantly deter criminal behavior.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges of crime in the area, and the authorities remain dedicated to addressing these issues effectively to restore peace and security within the community.
The police department hopes that with continued cooperation from the community, similar incidents can be prevented in the future, creating a safer environment for students and residents alike.
