The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled an illegal youth organization, the Ibom Youth Council, in Ikot Isighe, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, following its proscription by Governor Umo Eno. During a Thursday operation, police arrested three members of the group and demolished their headquarters.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, disclosed that the group had been preparing to launch attacks on security formations and private properties. He revealed that the organization had procured arms and initiated military training to disrupt law and order within the state.
“Acting on credible intelligence, a joint security team raided the group’s headquarters,” John stated. “While most members fled, three suspects were apprehended, and evidence of their plans to sustain unrest into the New Year was uncovered.”
The police emphasized their commitment, backed by the state government, to maintaining Akwa Ibom’s reputation as a peaceful state. Citizens were urged to report suspicious activities, and landlords were warned against renting properties to groups with subversive intentions, with a threat of demolition for noncompliance.
Authorities have assured residents of their resolve to use all legal measures to protect public peace and prevent any attempts to destabilize the state. Investigations into the group’s activities are ongoing.
