The FBI has arrested Sapphire Egemasi, known as the “Tech Queen,” for her alleged involvement in a fraud conspiracy. If convicted, she could face at least 20 years in prison in the United States for her crimes.

Egemasi, a programmer with a Devpost account, was apprehended on April 10, 2025, in the Bronx, New York. She was arrested alongside Samuel Kwadwo Osei, who authorities identify as the leader of the syndicate involved.

In 2024, a federal grand jury issued an indictment charging Egemasi and her co-defendants with multiple counts of internet fraud and money laundering. These charges stem from crimes committed between September 2021 and February 2023, targeting several U.S. entities.

The “Tech Queen” and her Ghanaian associates allegedly plotted to defraud the city of Kentucky out of millions of dollars. FBI documents reveal that Egemasi played a key role in creating fake websites impersonating official U.S. government domains.

These fraudulent sites collected login passwords and facilitated the transfer of stolen funds to various accounts controlled by the group. Before her arrest, Egemasi lived in Cambridge, United Kingdom, but authorities believe she previously resided in Ghana.

There, she likely met her co-conspirators and collaborated with them on the fraudulent scheme. As the technical lead of the syndicate, she oversaw the development of fraudulent websites and managed wire transfers to various accounts.

Text message records indicate that in August 2022, the syndicate transferred $965,000 stolen from Kentucky to a PNC Bank account. Investigators found photos on Egemasi’s social media pages showcasing luxurious vacations in Greece and Portugal, funded by illegal proceeds.

Currently, Egemasi and her co-defendants remain in federal detention, awaiting trial in Lexington, Kentucky, for their alleged crimes. If convicted, they could face significant prison time, hefty financial penalties, and deportation to their home countries after serving their sentences.
