The Ogun State Government has strongly condemned the actions of Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, who allegedly attacked officials of the State Planning and Development Permit Authority. The incident occurred at Portable’s bar in the Sango Ota area of the state.
According to the government, Portable’s actions were “unacceptable and barbaric.” The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described Portable as “a serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who has been in the habit of assaulting government officials without provocation.
The government’s condemnation of Portable’s actions comes on the heels of a recent incident in which nine of his proteges were arraigned for allegedly assaulting officers of the Ota Zonal Planning office of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Portable’s antics have raised concerns about his behavior and the impact it may have on his fans and the community at large. The government has warned that it will not tolerate any form of lawlessness or disorderliness, and that anyone found guilty of such behavior will face the full wrath of the law.
The incident has also sparked a debate about the role of celebrities in society and their responsibility to behave in a manner that is respectful and law-abiding. While some have defended Portable’s actions as a manifestation of his artistic expression, others have condemned him for setting a bad example for his fans.
