Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been ruled out of Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool due to illness. Manager Ruben Amorim confirmed Rashford’s absence, emphasizing that the player’s health had been the primary reason for excluding him from training this week.
Rashford’s situation has attracted significant attention in recent weeks, following his omission from the squad for four games due to reportedly poor training performances and attitude issues. Although Amorim briefly reintegrated Rashford into the team during United’s recent loss to Newcastle, the forward remained benched, sparking discussions about his future at the club.
The 27-year-old striker has been linked with a potential loan move to Napoli, with Manchester United reportedly open to the idea if his substantial wages—exceeding £300,000 per week—are covered. However, Rashford has dismissed rumors of a transfer to Saudi Arabia, despite reported lucrative offers.
Amorim, under mounting pressure as United languish in 14th place on the league table, has called for experienced players to step up during this challenging phase. He noted that Rashford’s position in the squad remains unchanged, stating, “It’s the same situation. We will see in the future, but this is like a normal player, and then I make a selection.”
Meanwhile, the club confirmed plans to extend contracts for two key players: Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire. Amad, who has impressed under Amorim, is close to finalizing a new deal extending his stay until 2029. Maguire, despite facing criticism, will have his current contract extended to 2026, with Amorim urging the defender to improve his leadership on the pitch.
