Despite the lingering leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party has reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing activities aimed at preparing for the 2027 general elections.
In Rivers State, the ADC has announced details of its screening exercise for aspirants ahead of its forthcoming congresses.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party called on all interested aspirants to take note of the schedule and screening procedures.
The statement, signed by the State Organising Secretary, Tony Dagony, directed all aspirants seeking state, local government and ward level positions to present themselves for screening at the State Party Secretariat, LG secretariats and Ward offices, respectively.
All screening exercises will take place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, by 11:00 a.m.
The ADC is grappling with an internal crisis threatening its stability.
The leadership tussle involves a faction aligned with David Mark and another linked to Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The crisis has escalated significantly, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), removing the party from its official website and declining to recognize any of the rival factions.
Adding another layer to the crisis, a separate faction led by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has announced plans to convene a national convention and establish an interim leadership to steer the party’s affairs.
