Concerns have been raised by the Rivers State Government regarding what it claims is the wilful falsification of its seizure of official cars from the home of Professor Ngozi Odu, the suspended Deputy Governor of the State.
Unnamed political figures were accused of manipulating the event in order to increase popular unrest.
The government acknowledged the recapture of two Toyota Hilux cars and one Hiace bus in a statement signed by his Senior Special Adviser on Media and addressed to the sole administrator, Hector Igbikiowubo. The statement described the action as a standard administrative procedure meant to protect state property.
Unnamed political figures were accused of manipulating the event in order to increase popular unrest.
“We question the motives of those politicising this matter,” the statement said in part. More than a month after a state of emergency was declared, what justifiable reason did these vehicles have for being on the suspended deputy governor’s property?
The administration rejected claims that the operation amounted to executive overreach and insisted that it was legal.
It reaffirmed its dedication to prudent public resource management and cautioned against efforts to subvert its power.
It stated, “We implore all sides to use moderation and not to try to test the resolve of an administration that has shown incredible patience in the face of ongoing provocation.”
Additionally, it advised the public to focus on its attempts to restore calm in the state and to disregard what it called “sensationalised accounts” of the incident.
