The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against armed robbery, with the arrest of a notorious cultist and armed robbery suspect. The suspect, identified as Innocent Chigozie, was apprehended by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) in his hideout.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspect had been terrorizing farm lands at Uzo Afor road in Okahia Community, Elele, Etche LGA. His gang’s activities had caused widespread panic and tension in the community, prompting the police to launch a manhunt for the suspect.
The police had previously engaged the gang in a gun duel, but they managed to escape. However, through coordinated intelligence, the police were able to track down the suspect and apprehend him on January 30, 2025.
During interrogations, the suspect confessed to owning the recovered exhibits, including one automatic pump action gun and two live cartridges. The suspect and exhibits are currently in police custody, and an investigation is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover their operational weapons.
