Rivers: We’ll Not Go Into Media Battle With Fubara – Police
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsappShare on EmailShare on Telegram

The Nigeria Police have firmly stated they will not engage in a media conflict with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the ongoing political turmoil in the state.

This announcement comes as tensions escalate and public allegations arise regarding the police’s involvement in local governance and election processes.

In a recent statement, the police condemned the allegations made by Governor Fubara, emphasizing that their actions are in strict compliance with a court order.

The police clarified that their primary responsibility is to maintain peace and order, not to become involved in political disputes.

Police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi addressed the media on Monday, asserting that the claims of bias and partisanship circulating in the press are unfounded.

He stressed the police’s commitment to remaining impartial, stating that their role is to serve all citizens equally, regardless of political affiliation.

“The police are dedicated to upholding the law and ensuring public safety,” Adejobi remarked, urging the public to recognize their dedication to neutrality.

Furthermore, Adejobi described the misinformation stemming from Fubara’s remarks as not only unwarranted but also harmful to the reputation of law enforcement in Nigeria.

He called for a more respectful discourse in political discussions, emphasizing the importance of factual representation in the media.

“We must rise above political gamesmanship and work together for the common good,” he said, highlighting the need for cooperation in addressing the issues facing the state.

For clarity, Adejobi encouraged the public to review the career of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). He highlighted the IGP’s reputation as a man of honor, integrity, and focus, both before and after taking office as the 22nd Indigenous Inspector General of Police of Nigeria.

Adejobi pointed out that the IGP is well-respected among his peers globally, particularly in Africa, where he currently serves as the Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO).

This role showcases his leadership abilities and commitment to regional policing standards.

The statement also highlighted that international police chiefs have attended various events in Nigeria and have extended invitations to the IGP to share his expertise abroad.

Notably, the president of Interpol participated in the Nigeria Police conference and retreat in Owerri last year, a significant event that underscores the IGP’s international standing and the recognition of Nigeria’s police force.

Adejobi’s statement was a call for decorum and respect in Nigeria’s political landscape. He stressed that the police will continue to uphold the law and maintain their neutrality, even amid political pressures.

The Nigeria Police remain focused on their duty to the public, seeking to foster trust and cooperation among citizens as they navigate the complex political environment in the country.

As the situation evolves, the police are committed to ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process, reinforcing their role as impartial protectors of democracy.
