A former commissioner for rural and community development under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Abbas Sani Abbas, in Kano State, has officially left the party following his sack by the Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf. The former commissioner, however, joined the All Progressive Congress.
The commissioner made the announcement during his visit to a prominent APC leader in Kano, where he pledged his allegiance to the ruling party.
Hon. Abbas, who is renowned for his commitment to community development and grassroots mobilization, gave an explanation for his party switch.
He said,, “I believe the APC offers the platform to achieve the vision of a better Kano and a stronger Nigeria. My move is guided by a desire to contribute more effectively to good governance and development.”
The defection was celebrated by top APC leaders in Kano, including the party’s state chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, popularly known as Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki, and other key stakeholders.
The APC leader welcomed Hon. Abbas to the party, praised his choice, and promised him his entire support. “Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas is a leader dedicated to serving humanity and a devoted grassroots organizer. We are honoured to have him join our wonderful party,” the party leader said.
The APC leader went on to highlight the party’s dedication to development and inclusivity. “Together, we shall keep advocating for the principles of inclusiveness, good government, and human service.
“This is a significant moment for our party in Kano as we strengthen our ranks with capable individuals like Hon. Abbas,” he added.
Prince Abdullahi Abbas also conveyed his belief that the party’s endeavours in Kano State and elsewhere will benefit from the former commissioner’s experience and commitment.
Kano political experts and party supporters have praised the defection as a huge victory for the APC, especially in its attempts to mobilize the grassroots. Many think that Hon. Abbas’s joining the APC will strengthen the party’s hold on the state’s rural communities.
In closing, Hon. Abbas expressed hope for his new political path. In order to secure a better future for Kano State and Nigeria overall, he declared, “I am totally committed to working with the APC leadership.”
