Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, firmly rejects the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.
During a recent interview on Channels Television, Ortom declared his unwavering commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State.
He emphasized that neither he nor his supporters have any intention of joining the newly formed ADC-led coalition ahead of 2027.
According to Ortom, he leads the PDP in Benue and continues to serve as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.
Importantly, Samuel Ortom rejects opposition coalition staing that the ADC coalition lacks structure and vision, warning it will eventually vanish like the morning sun.
He stated clearly, “People are free to join any coalition they want, but I and my people remain firmly in PDP.”
Meanwhile, Ortom also revisited his controversial role in the 2023 presidential election where he opposed PDP’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
He made it clear that he harbors no regret whatsoever for working against Atiku’s presidential ambition during the last general election.
“I did not hide it. I have no regret,” Ortom said confidently while explaining his actions during the heated 2023 campaign season.
Recall that Ortom belonged to the powerful G5 governors, including Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Okezie Ikpeazu.
Together, the G5 publicly rejected Atiku and shifted their political support to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ortom insisted their action was rooted in interest, not betrayal, arguing that politics fundamentally revolves around protecting key interests.
He said bluntly, “If someone works against my people’s interest, I must act to protect what truly matters to us.”
Ortom’s comments signal deep cracks in the PDP’s unity but also reaffirm his control over Benue’s political direction ahead of 2027.
