The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has taken bold action as it suspends national chairman Shehu Gabam with immediate effect.
Moreover, the party also suspended National Youth Leader Chukwuma Uchechukwu and National Auditor Nnadi Clarkson over serious misconduct.
According to the party, this decision follows strong evidence linking the three to unauthorized and unapproved financial transactions.
Furthermore, the suspensions stem from their alleged involvement in embezzling party funds and diverting donations for personal use.
In a detailed statement, National Publicity Secretary Araba Rufus Aiyenigba explained how the financial scandal was uncovered recently.
First, the NWC noticed that Gabam submitted an unapproved financial report to INEC, bypassing the required party processes.
Worse still, he also published a questionable financial summary in the newspapers without informing fellow party leaders beforehand.
Consequently, the party resolved to alert law enforcement agencies and suspend those directly connected to the financial fraud.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, Deputy National Chairman (North), has assumed duties as Acting National Chairman immediately.
Additionally, the NWC constituted a special panel to review financial records and recommend appropriate legal and disciplinary measures.
The SDP suspends national chairman and others to reinforce its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and financial recklessness.
Clearly, the decision aims to reassure Nigerians that SDP remains committed to transparent and ethical leadership at all levels.
Furthermore, Aiyenigba confirmed that the fraud involved hundreds of millions in nomination sales and undisclosed external contributions.
Importantly, the party already notified INEC and all relevant authorities regarding the suspensions and planned investigations.
