Security agencies have assured residents of a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Yobe.

Police commissioner Emmanuel Ado disclosed this shortly after a security meeting on Wednesday in Damaturu. The meeting was attended by senior officers from various security formations and other stakeholders.

Mr Ado said adequate arrangements were put in place to ensure the safety of lives and property across Yobe.

“A lot of preparations for the Sallah celebration have been extensively discussed in the meeting.

“We have agreed on how to man all the locations where celebrations will take place, both in Damaturu and across other communities in the state,” the police chief said.

He assured residents that all security agencies were working in synergy and had concluded robust operational plans to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the Sallah period and beyond.

“I want to assure Yobe citizens that the Sallah celebration will be hitch-free. Those with any intent to disrupt the peace should know that security agencies are fully prepared and alert,” Mr Ado said.

The police chief urged residents, particularly those attending the celebration, to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with the law.

“I especially appeal to our people celebrating Sallah to do so with decorum and to avoid actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he said.

Mr Ado also expressed concern over past incidents of criminal activities during late-night celebrations in some local communities and cautioned against such conduct.

“Previously, we have had issues where Sallah celebrations extended late into the night, leading to criminal activities.

“This year, we urge all divisional police officers and other security agencies to work with community leaders to agree on appropriate closing times for festivities,” the police commissioner added.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security agencies to provide adequate coverage for all celebrants and urged for continued cooperation from the public.
