Security forces in Anambra State have destroyed a suspected criminal camp located in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area. The operation, carried out on Tuesday morning, involved the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilance groups.
Anambra Police spokesperson, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the raid led to the demolition of makeshift structures used by the gang. Security operatives recovered 19 unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and inflicted injuries on fleeing suspects during the operation.
Ikenga revealed that the operation was a product of credible intelligence on the gang’s activities and insights gained from interrogating suspects arrested in ongoing police operations across the state. He emphasized that the dismantling of the camp is part of efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, commended the synergy between the police, NSCDC, and vigilance groups. He urged hospitals to report any patients with bullet wounds to the police to aid in apprehending fleeing suspects and preventing further crimes.
