The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has summoned NNPCL’s CEO to answer questions regarding the missing N210 trillion.
Committee chairman, Senator Ahmed Wadada, issued the ultimatum after NNPCL failed to appear at Thursday’s session in Abuja.
The company had previously been asked to address audit queries surrounding the missing N210 trillion between 2017 and 2023.
Instead of attending the hearing, NNPCL sent a letter requesting two additional months to prepare a detailed response.
The letter, signed by Adedapo Segun on behalf of NNPCL’s CEO Bayo Ojulari, was read aloud by the committee clerk.
Senator Wadada rejected the delay request, criticizing the company’s absence as disrespectful to the authority of the National Assembly.
“We expected answers, not letters,” Wadada said. “Their absence shows total disregard for this committee’s work and national accountability.”
Wadada emphasized that NNPCL was not asked for documents but for verbal explanations to 11 key audit-related questions.
The committee has now given NNPCL ten working days, until July 10, to appear and address the missing N210 trillion.
Senator Wadada warned that if Bayo Ojulari fails to appear by the new deadline, the committee will issue an arrest warrant.
“We will invoke every constitutional power at our disposal to compel the CEO’s attendance if he fails to show up,” he added.
The missing N210 trillion figure represents one of the largest financial accountability queries ever raised against a public corporation in Nigeria.
As the investigation intensifies, both citizens and stakeholders eagerly await NNPCL’s official response before the looming July 10 deadline.
