Vice-President Kashim Shettima recently called for a stronger relationship between the Federal Government and traditional institutions. He made this appeal during a condolence visit to the Ningi Emirate in Bauchi State on Friday. The visit was in response to the passing of the late Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammed-Danyaya.
During the visit, Shettima praised the late emir for his exceptional 88 years of service. He highlighted that not only did the late emir become the longest-reigning monarch in Ningi’s history, but he also made significant contributions to the nation even before his ascension to the throne. Shettima acknowledged the late emir’s dedication and impact, which set a high standard for leadership and service.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, Shettima emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s government is devoted to engaging traditional leaders as key partners in national development and social cohesion. He noted that traditional institutions are vital in preserving cultural heritage, upholding societal values, and maintaining national unity. These institutions are also crucial in fostering stability and offering guidance on the nation’s diverse heritage.
Shettima took the opportunity to congratulate Alhaji Haruna Yunusa-Danyaya, who was recently appointed as the new Emir. Haruna Yunusa-Danyaya, the eldest son of the late emir, is expected to uphold the legacy of his father. Shettima expressed confidence that the new emir would continue to guide the emirate with wisdom and dedication, just as his father did.
Shettima’s visit also underscored the strong connection between the Federal Government and the Ningi Emirate. He mentioned that several individuals from Bauchi State are currently serving in important roles within the government. For example, N.Y. Sule, his ADC, and Malam Ahmed Ishaq Ningi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Media and National Emergency, are both significant contributors to the administration’s efforts.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State extended his gratitude to Shettima for the visit. He described Shettima as a leader known for his modesty and respect for others, emphasizing the importance of such qualities in fostering good governance. Governor Mohammed welcomed Shettima to Bauchi State, acknowledging the dual purpose of his visit—to offer condolences and to congratulate the new emir.
In response, the new emir expressed his appreciation for Shettima’s presence and support during this challenging time. He noted the importance of such visits in strengthening bonds between traditional institutions and the government.
Additionally, Shettima, on behalf of President Tinubu, visited Kaduna State to convey condolences to the state government and the family of the late Justice Tanimu Zailani, former Chief Judge of Kaduna State.
Shettima expressed deep sadness over Justice Zailani’s passing and prayed for his soul to find eternal peace. He also extended his sympathy to the family, hoping they find the strength to cope with their loss.
Justice Zailani was a prominent figure in Kaduna State’s judiciary, serving as Chief Judge from 2013 to 2018. His contributions to the legal system and his role in upholding justice were highly regarded.
