Shettima’s remarks at book launch not about Fubara’s suspension — Presidency

The Presidency swiftly dismissed reports claiming Vice President Shettima indirectly criticized Governor Fubara suspension during a book launch.

According to the Vice President’s office, Shettima’s speech had absolutely no connection to the suspension of Fubara.

Instead, his remarks merely reflected on his experience under former President Jonathan during the Borno State emergency declaration.

Moreover, the Vice President praised Mohammed Adoke for professionalism during national crises, not for recent political controversies involving Rivers State.

Importantly, the Presidency clarified that President Tinubu did not remove Governor Fubara but suspended him constitutionally under Section 305.

Clearly, Tinubu acted due to the political chaos, threats of impeachment, and destruction of the Rivers House of Assembly.

Furthermore, the Presidency emphasized that comparing Borno’s insurgency to Rivers’ situation dangerously distorts legal and constitutional reality in Nigeria.

Shettima’s story, it stressed, aimed to highlight democratic accountability—not to question Tinubu’s actions or provoke unnecessary political tension.

Stanley Nkwocha, media aide to Shettima, strongly condemned platforms spreading disinformation about the Shettima Fubara suspension link.

He urged responsible journalism, reminding the public that misinformation erodes trust and undermines national stability and constitutional order.

Unlike Jonathan, who respected legal boundaries during Borno’s crisis, Tinubu also acted within the Constitution to protect democratic structures.

Notably, the National Assembly supported the suspension, confirming that Tinubu followed due process amid the escalating political turmoil.

Although critics tried to draw parallels, the Presidency insisted that both cases remain fundamentally different in nature and law.

Consequently, the administration reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, urging Nigerians to disregard politically motivated misrepresentations in the media.

In conclusion, the Vice President fully supports Tinubu’s leadership, and the Shettima Fubara suspension claim remains entirely baseless.
