Political commentator Segun Showunmi slams Reno Omokri for claiming he hired him during Atiku Abubakar’s 2019 campaign.
The controversy erupted after Reno Omokri appeared on The Honest Bunch podcast, recounting details of Atiku’s media hires.
According to Omokri, he refused to serve as Atiku’s spokesperson but instead recruited Segun Showunmi for the job.
Omokri claimed he was recommended by Olisa Metuh and approved a salary of ₦850,000 monthly for Showunmi’s work.
He added, “I interviewed and hired Segun Showunmi. Atiku wanted me, but I chose to build his media team.”
In response, Showunmi slams Reno Omokri with a fiery statement, debunking every part of the viral podcast claim.
He said the claim was baseless, and that he never met Omokri until a defense of London event.
Showunmi said, “It’s a waste of saliva to reply to Reno. He’s delusional and full of self-inflated stories.”
He explained that his political involvement began through mutual contacts and direct meetings with Atiku’s campaign team in Abuja.
According to him, Amina Jambo and Lulu Obaifo helped initiate the early conversations that led to his role.
He also mentioned meetings with Uyi Giwa Osagie, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and American strategist Dane Waters in Dubai.
With a sharp rebuke, Showunmi slams Reno Omokri again, calling him “a nonstop talker of rubbish and lies.”
He concluded that Reno once insulted President Tinubu endlessly, only to reverse course and now support the same administration.
Observers have weighed in, accusing Reno Omokri of political inconsistency and self-promotion rather than credible political commentary.
