Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has urged the military to step up efforts to put an end to the sit-at-home protests frequently announced by non-state actors in the South East area, while also pledging to continue his support for the military.
Governor Nwifuru made the announcement while meeting with Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, the new General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, at his office at New Government House Centenary City in Abakaliki, the state capital.
According to a press statement signed by Monday Uzor, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, and obtained by Channels Television on Sunday afternoon, Nwifuru asked security services to implement an award system to promote morale among their officers and soldiers.
He said, “I am very much sure you are conversant with the Southeast geopolitical environment.
“God has been with us together with good military officers deployed to our state. I want to assure you of our continued support, and I am confident in the kind of men serving here in this state.
“We have been showing good support for the good officers by giving cash and even car gifts to some of them.”
In his remarks, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye commended Governor Nwifuru for his support of the military and assured that he will collaborate with the State to maintain laws and order.
He said, “I assumed as the General Commanding Officer of 82 Division on the 27th of January, 2025. The purpose of the visit is to enhance my knowledge of the operating environment and the sectors, their challenges and the future of the command. It will also enhance inter-agency and inter-service collaboration”.
“I want to thank you for ensuring that all the agencies are well marshalled for better outcomes. I was informed of the cash rewards to some of our men who performed excellently”.
“I appreciate the honour and respect you have for the military.”
