Niger Delta activist Ann-Kio Briggs has urged President Bola Tinubu to reveal the details of the political agreement between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Tinubu personally brokered peace between the two leaders in June after nearly two years of political crisis in Rivers State. That intervention reportedly allowed Governor Fubara to return to office following his suspension in March.
Reports also suggest that the President may have asked Fubara to abandon his second-term ambition as part of the arrangement.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ann-Kio Briggs condemned the secrecy surrounding the deal. She likened it to “shaving someone’s head behind their back,” stressing that politicians weaken public trust when they strike hidden bargains.
Briggs emphasized that Rivers people continue to bear the heaviest burden of the crisis. She argued that decisions directly affecting citizens must always involve them.
“We cannot measure the impact of these secret agreements,” Briggs stated. “That makes it difficult to trust or follow the politicians.”
She further insisted that Rivers people deserve clarity. “We don’t know what the President demanded. We don’t know what both parties agreed upon. We must know because the future of Rivers State depends on it,” she declared.
