During a lively celebration of storytelling and cinematic excellence, Nigerian filmmaker Chinenye Nworah’s (Chichi) Slum King secured the Best Scripted M-net Original award at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
At the forefront of Giant Creative Studios, Chichi Nworah, renowned for her groundbreaking projects like Shanty Town, Omoge Suzzy, and Fairytale Wedding, once again showcased her remarkable talent and foresight. This was a testament to her commitment to producing content that deeply resonates with movie enthusiasts.
In her acceptance speech, Chichi conveyed her appreciation to MultiChoice for enabling her to bring her vision to fruition, underscoring the significance of embracing one’s creative abilities and sharing unique narratives with the world.
“Thank you, MultiChoice for allowing me and Donald to create this series. We are thrilled to receive this recognition. I urge everyone gifted in creation not to shy away from telling their stories. In 2019, we embarked on the journey of making Slum King, and today, we are elated to receive this award. Thank you,” she effused during her acceptance speech.
Overflowing with gratitude, Chichi utilized her social media platforms to extend further thanks to individuals, notable figures, and companies who contributed to turning the Slum King project into a reality, while also hinting at upcoming endeavors.
Chichi’s Netflix original limited series, Shanty Town, garnered worldwide acclaim and numerous accolades last year, solidifying her position as a prominent figure in the global film industry. The series earned Chichi recognition and admiration within the Nigerian and international film spheres, securing 10 nominations at the 2023 AMVCA.
