Controversial rapper Darlington Achakpo, better known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail following nearly a month in police custody. The development was confirmed by his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, who announced the news via Instagram. While details surrounding the bail remain sparse, the court’s decision marks a turning point in the artist’s legal ordeal.
Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. His detention stemmed from allegations of defamation and abuse directed at Afrofusion star Burna Boy. The arrest sparked widespread debate among fans and entertainment stakeholders, with many calling for a fair resolution.
Earlier, human rights advocate Deji Adeyanju, who has also represented Speed Darlington, revealed efforts to secure his release. Adeyanju highlighted that a Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure (FREP) application had been filed, demanding either his arraignment or immediate release. The case underscored broader concerns about justice and rights within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The rapper’s legal team remained optimistic throughout the process, insisting that the accusations were baseless and politically motivated. Speed Darlington’s family and fans rallied behind him, demanding transparency and fairness in handling the case.
